I agree that wedding invites should be emailed. But at some point, wedding cards became this big extravagant thing.

It seems like some brides get really into making them and get super serious about it. Like if theirs isn't as good as their friends its going to be a big deal somehow.

Are you the guy she keeps telling me about? The one with the "gentleman wearing the ski mask on his face, but nude from the waist down"? Because you're scaring White Grandma.

    Seems? Somehow?

Yeah some won't care... but I'm imagining some of my girlfriend's co-workers being told they couldn't have the flowers like they saw in the one magazine, or the moment they realized one girls ring was bigger than hers, etc. right now. Like this but much more vocal and teary.

Wait till future wife makes hers, it'll be awesome. You get to be there for the whole thing and not say a word. Btw, I did just call your girlfriend future wife.

Fixed that for you, and she was the one who first commented on it being dumb to email thank you cards. I love her.

However you can take that lack of importance on cards, etc. in her mind and stack it on the dress. She will really care about some things and that's okay with me, likewise some things won't matter to her but are important to me (i.e. not running out of beer at the reception).

Hook me up with some digits

Well, if she's upgraded me to "gentleman," then I feel like I'm making progress. Should I try a different color mask?

You're not afraid of marriage are you? Think of it this way, there's hardly any difference between girlfriend and wife. Its just semantics really. And the wedding, that'll be awesome, all that money spent for the best day of your life. Don't think of it as a sunk costs and of the time spent as a hassle, think of it as enjoying the experience because you'll never get to do it again.

I think future wife will really appreciate the positive attitude.

I love single people talking about what being married is like. Like I used to do.

    And boy, was I wrong.

Yea, I was just messing with our friend here. Apparently he was a little thrown off when I called his girlfriend future wife, so I ran with it.

Most of my hyberbole on the matter is just joking too. Most. You think people haven't been calling her my wife in real life yet? I'm not afraid of getting married, nor do of all of the Village Idiots and wedding freaks in the world concern me too much. I'm not worrying about the wedding planning stuff but posts like Angel's just don't make me look forward to it.

The older I get, the more ragey I feel about wedding bullshit. I am desperately hoping that when it comes time for my daughter's wedding, that there will have been some sort of revolution and the wedding industry goes down in flames....or becomes a tired old trope that is only used by the rich and stupid.

To be clear, wedding planning at its core is a piece of cake. Weddings, like any event, are only as complicated as you make them. At the end of the day, you need four things to be there: You, your partner, your license, your officiant. Everything else is gravy. Remember that.

Yeah I was just thinking that, it's everyone around us that'll be making it into a bigger deal. The same people probably won't appreciate being told to go fuck off and worry about their own marriage too, unfortunately.

Oh, if it weren't for the damned magazines and Pinterest...

Yea, thats tough. Hopefully your friends don't call her your wife, hopefully thats more office banter than anything else.

Hopefully no one has started asking you when are the kids coming along.

Having your friends call your girlfriend your "wife" isn't all that bad. It's just their way of saying "aww, you're smitten with this girl and aren't as much of a bitter fuck as you usually are".

It's way more annoying when they say that you and your girlfriend "divorced", rather than "broke up", though.

It's my co-workers and guy friends that are the "worst" about explicity calling her future-wife but they are kidding, it's a mix of what Ghetto said and for the sake of getting a colorful response from me.

I've just become accustomed to every single female family member asking me about rings every single time I see them too. "Ha ha ha, I am joking" they say, after the 101st time they've asked me and try so hard to work it into every conversation they can.

Know what? I don't need to worry about that BS today so I won't. Instead I'm going to laugh at this and be thankful my dog hasn't pulled a stunt like it, yet.
