such a weird feeling to pack for an international race. My entire carry on is literally just stuff for running the marathon, which is this Sunday. Leave the airport tonight, and because of the 6 hour time difference we still get there in the morning. Also the jet stream is crazy -- 9 hour flight there, same flight is 11 hours on return.

I don't know if it's normal to be so social or friendly with your neighbors or if we got lucky and picked the best street in town. I sure didn't grow up with these kinds of relationships. One stopped by for a visit, one returned a book recently borrowed, another dropped off a big bowl of ceviche and chips.

I wish you could smell this picture. It's amazing.

(Shout-out to all my Stardew Valley peeps... I'm living that life basically)

I'm in the same boat; we got really lucky that there's a whole sub-group of our neighborhood that just regularly hangs out with each other. Sometimes it's meeting up at random breweries around town, or just rotating who's house we hang out with during the weekends when the weather is nice. It also usually ends up with me cooking dinner for the whole hood on the Blackstone.

We lucked out too and got awesome neighbors who are social and interact with us, which is extremely rare in Sweden. Jägerette said she thought they might be swingers when we first moved in as they were super social and interested in us, completely non swedish. Plus 3 teenagers who fight over who gets to take care of our dog when needed.

Of course they just put their house up for sale and we are going to miss them dearly when some snotty-ass swedes move in.

We are similarly lucky. I’ve posted about this, but we have a fantastic group of neighbors who we like, trust, rely on and spend time with.

Two immediate examples- tonight is garage night so I’ll be getting twisted as fuck with some neighbors at my buddy’s house up the street. Tomorrow night I’m seeing Judas Priest with some other neighbors.

We have a mixed bag of neighbors. Most are at least 20 years older than us, past retirement age. They drink their faces off and ride around on golf carts, laughing and carrying on, slurring speech to others doing the same.

Some I would do anything for, and some I hope they fall pecker first in a nest of fire ants everyday. I expect each of those categories of neighbor feel the same about us. What we do get is very peaceful winters, and weekdays during the summer, because most of the homes are second homes for the owners.

So speaking of fantastic neighbors, another 4th neighbor called me to come pick this up for free:

My neighbors are legit. Watched our daughter on a whim when my wife was rushed to the hospital with an emergency during her second pregnancy.

My neighbors and landlords in my first apartment were insane. It was a 3-family house and the 50-something landlords lived in the middle. They only spoke Polish, which was great when you needed them to fucking fix something. One night him and his wife were completely shitfaced standing in our kitchen at 2am on a Tuesday arguing in polish while pointing at our stove. We got their daughter to come up and bring them back downstairs. 1 hour later they came back asking us to come drink with them and their friends that had since showed up to party.

Two of us declined and went back to bed. One of my friends shrugged and went downstairs to hang out. Another hour later, they come up stairs, babble something at us in gypsy, and motion for us to come with them. We found our friend passed out with his face down on their kitchen table while two of their friends helped themselves to more vodka. We picked our buddy up and fireman-carried his ass back upstairs. Banged his head into the side of the staircase pretty hard and fairy sure he had a concussion. He slept for 2-days straight.

Bottom floor neighbor was recently released from prison and was probably about 65-years-old. Dude was cool as shit, though. Showed us some prison tats, told us stories from the Vietnam War and one time threatened to beat up a 13-year-old for asking for money after shoveling out his car.

    WTF.

I once lived next to a guy for 3 years and never learned his name. Best neighbor I ever had. We still never talk sometimes.

(seriously, though: in all the communities I've lived in, at best I've made a couple friends. I've never lived in a community that was really, you know, communal. I've certainly never been gifted a goddamn Traeger smoker.)
